Should You Redirect URLs for AI Search?

Usually not. Readable slugs are cited somewhat more often by AI answer engines, but changing a live URL means a 301 redirect, and that costs more in traditional search than a prettier slug gains. AI assistants also change how they pick and guess URLs with every new model. Glippy does not score whether slugs match your navigation labels, and the rule of thumb is: never redirect unless something is really broken.

• The URL is broken (it returns 404, or agents keep requesting /contact while the page lives at /contactform) - redirect it to the right page. That fixes a real failure without touching your ranking URLs.
• The page is new or has no history - give it a readable, hyphenated slug. Matching your nav label is fine here because it costs nothing.
• The URL is established or ranking - leave it alone. Only adopt readable slugs when you are already changing URLs for another reason, such as a planned migration.
